Wood-look tile in Houston, TXWood and Stone Look Tile

The look-alike tile trend that started a few years ago has only increased in popularity. People are eager to get the look of wood or stone in their homes with the benefits of tile. These clever designs look much like the real thing; however, stone and wood look tile can be installed in areas where the real thing would rarely go – think outdoors, mudrooms, laundry rooms, bathrooms, and more. These tiles are much quicker and easier to clean and maintain as well.

Terracotta Tile

The old world charm of terracotta tile is making a big comeback this year. The rustic appeal of these red-toned tiles brings warmth and charm to any room, indoors or out. This is a particularly appealing trend in Houston with our warm climate and humid summers. Terracotta is very durable in extreme weather, resistant to mold and mildew, and it retains a comfortable temperature indoors.

Patterned ceramic tile in Houston, TXTile Pattern

There are two trends emerging in tile patterns. The first is patterned tile itself, or bold designs printed on porcelain and ceramic that can really bring character and personality to a space. The second is tile laid out in new and interesting ways. The classic herringbone, chevron, and subway patterns are always popular. Geometric, parquet and brick patterned tiles are also great choices for a modern look.

Tile Size

Think extremes. Large, brick pattered tiles are popular for flooring and walls, but we are also seeing tiny tiles emerge. Thin tile, penny-round tile, and small hexagon tiles are showing up in bathrooms and kitchen accents.

Tile Color

The always-popular neutral colors are still common – think grey, beige, espresso and white. Bold colors are also emerging, which really allow homeowners to express their personality and style through tile. Aqua tile is popular when used sparingly in bathrooms or kitchens. Green tiles are also popular this year, perhaps thanks to the Pantone color of the year, Greenery.
